phoenix hockey club FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/SPORT_IP Phoenix hockey club P hoenix Hockey Club is playing an important role in their local community by providing people with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment. Club Development Officer Carl Wright took the time to tell us more about the set up they currently have in place. He said, “I have been involved at the club for 4 years now. I originally joined to be the men’s 1st XI coach and straight away got involved in a lot of the other things that the club had going on. “The most challenging aspect of the club at the moment is probably the lack of volunteers to take on roles. Having been involved with a few different clubs across multiple sports I think this is an on-going trend. However with that said the club continues to develop and move forward and that is a testament to the structure that the club has in place. The most rewarding piece is continuing to see the club develop across a broad range of areas including – • Facilities - we have recently re-laid our Astro Turf which we completed before the start of last season 8 Issue 10 • Media - We have redeveloped our website, communication and membership processes to assist with the general administration and running of the club • Playing - We have introduced a disability section at the club which is continuing to grow • Youth - we have introduced a number of satellite initiatives with local schools which are continuing to grow and get new people playing hockey” Atmosphere “The general mood is positive, the club is continuing to develop and we are starting to see a lot of new faces. The new season is just around the corner and we are hoping that it will be a successful one for all involved.”
