chard rfc promotion on four occasions which meant progressing from Somerset Division One to National league Three (south west ). Despite competing well the 1st XV only survived at this level for one season but will still be competing at a high level this coming season with their games being in South West Division One. The 2nd XV will be playing in Somerset Division One and the 3rd XV and colts XV will be playing in Somerset Division Three and the Somerset under 18 league respectively. A gap in the playing side was filled last season with the introduction of an Under 16 ladies team and the club are hoping that this will be the catalyst for ladies rugby to really take off. The club have very strong links with the local schools particularly with Holyrood Academy whose grounds back on to the main club facility. With the 2015 World Cup approaching Chard RFC has really updated their facilities in recent months thanks to a ‘social spaces’ grant from the RFU which had to be matched in kind by funds raised by the club. The interior of the club has been upgraded as have the toilets and showers. The club is looking forward to being the local community hub for all the world cup matches which will be shown on the newly installed large screen and will be looking to offer opportunities to new players of all abilities and ages. With its main ground being in the town centre the clubhouse is a community honey pot and hosts a number of private and public events. The club has for example been the home of the After Stroke Group for over 20 years and also host the annual Chard Firework display at no cost to the town. The club are always striving to improve their facilities so as to provide the Chard community with a place where rugby is available for both players of all ages and abilities and where families and supporters are afforded a warm welcome. www.pitchero.com/clubs/chardrfc - Twitter : @ChardRugby www.sportip.biz 43
