Roger Albert
Clark rally
R
oger Albert Clark was a British rally driver during the 1960s and 70s and was the first competitor from his country to
win a World Rally Championship event when he triumphed at the 1976 RAC Rally. In 2004, an historic rally event
was established to recreate the route of the classic RAC rally.
Since then the event has gone from strength to strength
and was a major success again in 2014. Matthew Robinson
and Sam Collis were confirmed as the winners of the
2014 Roger Albert Clark Rally with Nick Elliott and Dave
Price coming in second place with Julian Reynolds and
Patrick Walsh in third.
Anticipation for this year’s event is now starting to build
with the route and event regulations being announced in
recent weeks with planning approaching its final stages.
The events will take place from Friday 27th to Sunday
29th November and it promises to be a weekend to
remember. The rally will start and finish in Sunderland
with extensive use being made of the Kielder forest
complex and also the Scottish borders.
The weekend will see many historic classics taking place
and the Open Rally will also see two-wheel drive cars
complying with MSA regulations being given a chance
to take part. The event will be based around Seaburn
Leisure Centre which is to provide the venue for rally
HQ, scrutineering, documentation and prize-giving with
a spectacular spectator stage at the Herrington Country
Park.
The opening leg of the event will be on Friday night
with a challenging course to be followed by two days
of predominantly daylight rallying on Saturday and
Sunday. Friday’s leg will cover 40 stage miles which will
be followed by 60 stage miles on Saturday and 50 miles
on Sunday. This will mean that in total the crews will
face 150 stage miles in 20 special stages in what is sure to
be a strong examination of their skills.
For Friday evening the Herrington Park spectator stage
and forest stages in southern Kielder will be included
with Saturday starting out in Herrington Park before
