We moved our training facilities to a local school who have
been fantastic to us and made us feel more than welcome and
really helped us with anything we required. On top of this
we offered a huge kit deal to all players that attended 75% of
preseason training. This helped with getting numbers there
from the start and gave the coaches the numbers to work with.
In true SCOB tradition we focused a lot on the social aspect
again which had been lost a bit previously. A number of free
bars were offered during the season which helped everyone to
get together socially which has always been the backbone of
the club and build the camaraderie again.
“Without a doubt we are a community club. It has always
been a major part of our existence. Over the years we have
taken part and organised many charity games, charity runs
and social events to help the local community. When we
finally get into our new home the chance to extend this and
really help bring the community together will be a large chunk
of what we do and be a major focus for the club.
“Our biggest plaudits come from visiting teams who come
back to ‘20 at the Kings Hotel’ after a game. Not only are the
facilities outstanding the food offered is way and beyond
offered anywhere else. Often full roast dinners/thick meaty
curries provided by the excellent staff. The best comments we
get are the away players that often make the trip just for the
food after as it is of such a high standard - proper restaurant
quality.
“In the interim until the new clubhouse is ready our initial
aims are to stay in Southern Counties and for our 2nds to push
for promotion out of their current league. These 2 are top of
the list to ensure we are in the right position in 3 year’s time.
“Once there the sky is the limit with a development system
being put in place and a settled home making us a very
attractive prospect. We will take it slowly at first but the big
aim has got to be the biggest team in the area and who knows
from there…
“We will never forget our roots and will aim for the SCOB
mentality but it will be under our own roof in our own home.”
