New Mills are able to offer Trout fishing, on our own private stretch of the Whiteadder and there is also the Angling Association in the immediate vicinity. It is situated right on the river bank so you can literally walk out of the door in the morning straight onto the river. As well as that we are well situated for Salmon and Trout fishing on the Tweed and Whiteadder and sea fishing also. There’s the opportunity for people to take advantage of the private area that we have and they can also expand their fishing experience further afield if they so wish. Up to now we haven’t really promoted the fishing opportunity we provide but would welcome more people coming along to take advantage of what we can offer because it is an ideal setting we have here for anglers. There are a number of improvements presently taking place including the removal of willow trees and strimming of bank paths to make the fishing more accessible. The Whiteadder has a good run of spring salmon followed closely by large numbers of sea trout throughout the summer months, peaking in June and July. The best salmon sport is to be had at the end of the year during August, September, October and November. Although catches have been down over the past two years (as with all east coast rivers) this season is looking quite good so far and may yet reach the 2012 catch record of 179 fish over the six beats.
