The season is a very short one being so far north, running
from Mid-April to Early September. Weather can also be
a major headache for the greens staff as has been the case
this year which has been the wettest for a number of years.
Only now at the end of June is the course beginning to
look its best with drier fairways and firmer greens but
with the rough now starting to become “lush”.
As the club has an ageing membership, a lot of effort
has been put into junior coaching and encouraging young
people to take up golf. A number of members both male
and female have undertaken coaching courses under the
Club Golf Programme. Junior coaching sessions take place
every Sunday afternoon over the summer covering all
aspects of golf skills.
Finance is of course a big issue facing all sporting clubs,
so the committee has worked hard over the last few years
to gain sponsorship from local companies. All 18 holes
are now sponsored, with a large number of competitions
also being supported by local companies, which the club
greatly appreciates and a Sponsors Day is held annually to
show the club’s gratitude. Funding sources will continue
to be a major part of the Committee’s work over the next
few years.
Another major task will be to try to encourage more people
to join the club. Members are needed to keep any sporting
organisation or club going, if membership falls then the
club will begin to decline. The membership fee may have
to be increased to meet costs, h
