shetland golf club FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/SPORT_IP Shetland golf CLUB S hetland Golf Club is located in a valley through which the Dale Burn flows about four miles from the main town of Lerwick in the Shetland Isles, which has a population of about 23,000. It is the only golf course located on the Mainland of Shetland, the other being on the island of Whalsay. The course measures 5562 yards, par 68 for the Gents and 4893 yards, par 70 for the Ladies. It is very much an undulating course, with sloping fairways and the flatter holes only on the valley floor next to the burn which is a major hazard on a number of holes. It is also very much a community club with members from all age groups from juniors to more elderly 36 Issue 09 members. It is by no means an exclusive club but very much an inclusive one. There is no waiting list, no joining fee and the membership fee is low in comparison to some clubs on mainland Scotland. The club is managed by a Committee of volunteers who are responsible for the running of the club, organising competitions and the maintenance of the course with the help of a team of greens staff.
