true heroes racing True Heroes Racing T FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/SPORT_IP rue Heroes Racing is a project first established in 2012 which uses the world of motorsport to support injured UK Service personnel. The team was initially formed around rider, LCPL Murray Hambro who had lost both his legs in Afghanistan in 2010. Murray was supported by other injured Servicemen as a strong team ethos was built within the set up. The progress made since then has been superb as they entered the British Superbike Championships with Murray racing in the Triumph Triple Challenge. They continued to grow in 2014 with Cpl Luke Smith, who suffered severe hearing loss after an IED explosion in Afghanistan, becoming their second rider. The opportunities True Heroes Racing is offering Service personnel are terrific and the future appears to be very bright for the team. Team Manager Phil Spencer took the time to tell us more about the good work they’ve been doing. 44 Issue 08 SiP: How long have you been involved with True Heroes Racing? PS: I’ve been involved with True Heroes Racing since it started. I’m a serving Warrant Officer in the Royal Navy who had the idea to set the team up in 2012. Having initially formed the team I now manage all aspects of the team’s operation and preparation, although I do have assistance from other members of the team in certain hands on roles.
