“I have been racing 11 years, I started racing in 2004 in
juniors, before moving into ladies in 2006. I took over as
Yorkshire Dales club secretary in 2012 and still am now. I
first got interested in racing as my brother started racing and
after watching him I thought it looked like fun so wanted to
have a go.
Unfortunately I didn’t manage to race much last year as I
have been building my own car, however I raced a friend’s
car, Aaron Cavagin, on a few occasions and had some good
results. I was particularly happy about my achievement in
winning ladies class 6 at nationals for the 2nd year running.
I think that the key to my success is learning from every race
and taking advise from others on how to improve, but also
having determination and believing in my ability.
As my new car is nearly complete I hope to get as much
track time as possible in it, getting it set up and getting to
grips with it. I hope to compete at the remaining British
Autograss Series (BAS) rounds and Ladies Nationals,
hopefully with some success.
If anyone is interested in getting involved I would advise
them to come along to a race meeting and see what it’s all
about, this is a great time to understand the different classes
you can race in. Yorkshire Dales hold members meetings the
first Tuesday of every month this is a great time to talk to
members and get more information.
My ambitions are to win Nationals and BAS in my class 6.
After this I am not sure, possibly change to race in a different
class although I am unsure which I would move to.”

“The
club
promote
themselves and the meetings
on a lot of social media sites,
we attempt to promote our
meetings in the local papers
(only one of them does this
for us every time). We have
had flyers made that are
distributed around the region
to advertise the sport and the
club.
“We also attended local
events and have a pitch
promoting our club such as
the Thirsk truck festival. As
a club we are proud to be
hosting the Ladies nationals,
and aim to provide them the
40 Issue 08
best nationals they have ever
had. The ladies in the sport
do an incredible job and don’t
get the credit they deserve.
“I would like to see the
club in the next five years
continue to go from strength
to strength continue to be a
leading club in Autograss,
continue to host “big”
meetings and to continue
to provide the best possible
Autograss experience for
drivers and spectators. It will
also be important to continue
to gain members, maintain
the current spectators and
gain new supporters.”
