D
artfordians RFC are a club that has been achieving fantastic success in recent times, developing superbly both on
and off the field. We caught up with Chairman Jarrod Lawrence to find out more about the success the club has
been achieving in recent times.
This Season
He told us, “The season has been outstanding. The 1st XV gained
promotion into London SE2 and this has to be seen as the most
important event this season as they remain the benchmark, but
within our club we are hugely proud not only of what they have
achieved, but also across the piece from every age group and
senior side.
The 2nds finished 4th in their league, the Angels (3s) finished
3rd as did the Saints (4s) and the Sinners (our Vets/come 5th
team) turned out on 8 occasions and enabled a lot of older
players to come back and enjoy the physicality of the sport and
the camaraderie also.
Off the field we have completed the re-build, with special thanks
to our Project Manager – Tim Geoghegan – a long-time player
and club member and without his dedication we may never have
completed the project.
Special thanks also to those who have provided funding –
Mayor of London, The London Marathon Trust, Bexley Council,
NatWest, RFU as well as our various sponsors…..So a brilliant
season and one to continue to build from.”
Youth
“Youth development is hugely important to us as it is the
lifeblood of the club. Clearly we need to bring in some seasoned
players from time to time, but only if they have similar goals to
those of the Club and they must fit in. We have no intention of
paying players and therefore to survive in the higher leagues you
need to have a conveyor belt of players to ensure all of the senior
squads are strong with a blend of experience and youth.
This is currently the case, but we need to make sure that all of
our coaches, at every level are turning our players into players
who are as good as they can be, whether that means they end up
playing 1st team rugby or for the 2nds, Angels, Saints, Sinners
