we will be in the National 2 or National 3 this next
season, the team building will continue and Gary is
the man for that.
“As with other clubs, youth development is a
fundamental priority and we have a good mini/junior
section headed up by our Chairman of mini/juniors,
Geoff Lound.
“Hull RUFC is an inner city club and with many
other rugby union clubs as well as rugby league clubs
(not to mention Hull City football club, Hull FC and
Hull Kingston Rovers) there is a lot of competition
around us for attention and support. Having said that,
Hull RUFC, are well supported by the local business
community, on and off the pitch.
“We moved to our new ground about 7 or 8 years
ago. Since that time we have re-laid a new pitch and
put up a new stand and changing rooms. The YPI
at Chanterlands Avenue has great facilities and the
clubhouse caters for our members at ground floor
level with a dedicated sponsor’s lounge and viewing
balcony at first floor level. Visitors to the ground are
generally impressed with the whole set up.
“We have also had a ladies rugby team for the last
10 years or so and the girls have had a relatively good
season.
“The biggest challenge for us is always the generation
of income to keep the club in the position it is in and the
need to find new sponsors all the time is paramount.
If we cannot find the money then we cannot afford to
operate at the level we currently are at.
