In recognition to their sponsorships we have their details placed on plaques on the Tees and also on plaques above the bar in the lounge. Again this has brought positive feedback from members and visitors and we appreciate their support. One of the roles of being Club Secretary is to ensure that the club runs smoothly. I always make a point of introducing myself to visitors and ensure that they receive a warm and friendly welcome from myself and the staff. This year will have extra challenges for me because I have been elected Lady vicecaptain. I hope to be able to assist our Lady Captain Doreen Pringle as much as I can. Having a dual role is in itself a challenge but hopefully it won’t interfere with my playing golf. We have had a good start to 2015 with the arrival of many new members. In the current climate this is a good sign. There are many golf courses within a short area around the Borders and we all struggle to increase our membership. We have a large Senior section at the golf club and they play competitions all through the year on a Tuesday and Wednesday. They have also supported the club last year by planting shrubs and providing 36 Issue 07 Diary Ad Proof:Layout 1 flower tubs and troughs around the outside of the clubhouse. Many of our members give up their free time to do the small things that no one thinks about like removing weeds from outside, sanding down and re painting the tables and chairs on our patio area. It shows that our members are proud of being associated with the golf club and that their efforts are appreciated by all. We have many competitions and Open competitions throughout the year, too many to mention, but our club diary is full. This year we are again being the host to a charity marathon. We were approached last year by a representative of the Brathay Trust who were looking for a venue to hold a marathon. Our golf course was the perfect choice (because we are in the middle of a racecourse so have a natural running track. Last year was such a success that they are holding the event again this year. There will be about 200 competitors and all monies raised are for the Brathay Trust charity. This marathon is taking place on March 8th and this year we are going to enter our own relay team.
