kelso golf club Kelso golf club Article provided by Club Secretary Dawn Tomlinson K elso Golf Club is set in the heart of the Borders beautiful golfing countryside, this 18 hole par 71 course is maintained to the highest level and will set a challenge to every standard of player. The club offers an attractive parkland course well known for the fine conditions of its greens and fairways. The original course was designed by Ben Sayers then re-designed by James Braid in 1930. The mature 18 hole layout was opened in 1980. After a round of golf players can relax in our comfortable club house, with lounge, bar and restaurant. A warm welcome awaits all our visitors. Our newly appointed chef provides a varied menu and we cater for large and small golfing parties. We provide special packages and excellent rates for golfing societies. Our restaurant area can also be hired for birthday parties etc. (which is very popular). I have been a member of the golf club since 2006. I joined the ladies section and received a very warm welcome. Since then I have supported the club in many ways. I took the position of Club Secretary in January 2014. Without sounding sexist, since I became Club Secretary, there has been an air of change in the clubhouse. It’s the little things that visitors especially pick up on. Things like fresh flowers that are placed around the lounge area especially when there is a party booking. These are provided by the golf club but it is one of our senior ladies who has an artistic eye and displays the flowers beautifully. I have erected a trophy board in the lounge area. All our trophy winners have their photos taken and these are placed on the board. It gets a lot of attention from visitors and we have had positive comments from the members. I think it’s good that our competitions are well supported and the golfers take pride in the fact that their achievements are recognised. It is also a good way for members to get to know one another.
