SHETLAND golf club and encourage young golfers to play. To assist with development the club is currently an active member of Club Golf and Active Schools schemes. We have 12 trained level one coaches to work with youth players and take our in house 10 week summer coaching program. There are also regular competitions and Open tournaments as well as last year we set up a Junior Ryder Cup event between Whalsay Golf Club and ourselves. It was very successful in giving our youth members more exposure to competitive team golf.” Challenges/Ambitions “In no particular order I’d say an aging membership, diminishing interest in golf itself and cutting of local sports funding on the Island represent our biggest challenges. Over the coming years we intend to continue on in the same vein, we have a lot of really dedicated volunteers who put in a lot of hard work year after year so if we keep that interest the same we will be in really good shape! I think it would be great to keep seeing our consistent year after year on course improvements to the greens, tees, and drainage. As well as possibly even add in a few hole alterations and major re-designs. As these are the kind of progressive things that members want to see and if the members are happy then that’s a job well done in my eyes.” The highly skilled and flexible team at L/E/F have over 25 years experience providing a complete range of services to a wide range of oil and gas industry clients both on and offshore.
