hetland Golf Club, second most northerly golf club in the UK and are a great example of how to play an important role
in their local community. Sport in Profile Magazine caught up with Men’s Captain Jordan Leask to find out more about
the fantastic work they’ve been doing.

He told us, “I have been at the club since I first started playing
golf in 1998, being only one of two clubs on the Shetland Isles
and the only one on the mainland of the Isle there wasn’t much
choice on the matter. However Dale has always been a fantastic
challenge and a very pretty setting during the long summer
months.
My first real memory of the club was how much rough there
was when I was younger and how I enjoyed looking for golf balls
in it as much as actually playing the game! I quickly realised that
I actually despised being in the rough as it meant my score was
always high!
The most challenging part of my role is definitely trying to
find the time to volunteer at the club. The most rewarding thing
is when the clubhouse is packed full after a big Open event and
everybody is having a great time socialising. Nothing makes me
happier for the club than seeing that!”
“2014 was really good! It was my first year as Men’s Captain and
pretty much everything went according to plan! The weather
stayed good for the most part, the course was in good nick the
entire summer and competition entries were similar to previous
years.
We are really making a conscious effort to improve the quality of
the greens in particular! We have some fantastic greens during
the small golfing season we have up here but we think we can
do more and hopefully at the same time ma
