As part of the Legacy Transformation contract the 12 football pitches had to be re-instated and returned back to Hackney Borough Council. This element of the contract was let to Frosts as a Design and Build project and they employed Tim O’Hare Associates and Agripower to design and undertake these works under their management and supervision. It was noted by the contractors that the original design was flawed and a rethink was required to ensure the 12 sports pitches operated correctly and could be maintained without the additional costs of a permanent irrigation system. Works included stripping the existing carpark surfaces, levelling the site, installing a land drainage system, seeding with a bespoke seed mix suitable for the location and use and finally maintaining the pitches in accordance with the management plan. Works were hampered by the severe weather of early 2013 but the final result were 12 high quality sports pitches. The scheme won a 2014 Sports Grounds & Leisure Facilities BALI award to sit alongside Frosts Landscape’s 47 other BALI awards! 12 Issue 05
