[PRO BASKETBALL]
The Durham Wildcats are based at The Graham Sports Centre at Maiden Castle on Stockton
Road and they currently compete in the BBL Championship. Their approach to basketball is
explained well by their club motto which is, “Making Memories, Leaving Legacies”.
The team came about as the
result of a joint venture between
Durham University and Durham
County Council and was set up
with the ambition of developing the
strongest basketball programme in
Britain. They finished in 11th place
in their first year before taking 9th
in their second and will be looking
to build on this performance in the
coming years.
This should provide them with a
good platform from which to build
as they look ahead towards the rest
of the campaign. So long as they
are able to keep their key players
free from injury they will be in with a
good chance of pushing on up the
table and could have a chance of
making the play-offs which would
be a superb achievement.
One of the focuses of the Durham
Wildcats is development with their
playing squad being recruited
from Durham University in order to
combine Higher Education study
with elite basketball. They aim to
ensure that their players can grow
as athletes and as people during
their time with the club and feel that
this will lead to success on and off
the court.
