THIRSK HOCKEY CLUB With only one astro surface available we have only limited times available for coaching, given that the pitch is also used by footballers in the evenings. We have just gone from two evenings a week to three and that is still a restriction. There is a major development on the edge of Thirsk which will provide funds for additional sports facilities, but an astro is not included. The major benefit will be that a synthetic football pitch will be laid so we will then have the astro available every evening. This will then lead to the need for more coaches, and so it continues. In the coming years we want to continue to grow our junior section to over 300 members, to increase our senior teams by at least one more ladies team, to recruit another 15 coaches and support helpers and continue to train more volunteers to be junior team managers. It will also be important to improve our changing facilities from two rooms to six to enable more teams to change when participating at our tournaments.” www.sportip.biz 61
