They went out and made a statement in their first fixture as well, defeating Milton Keynes Badminton 4-1 at the Centre MK. The fixture was played in front of a packed Milton Keynes crowd and Sky Sports cameras as the Smashers managed to win 4 of the 5 match points that were up for grabs. The new league structure sees a new format being introduced with games being played to 9 points and being the best of 5 games with a powerplay shuttle enabling double points when played. This victory should provide the team with a superb platform from which to build as they look ahead towards the rest of the campaign. So long as they can keep their level of performance at the same level then there does not seem to be any reason why they will not be able to challenge for honours come the end of the campaign. It will certainly be exciting to see how they are able to progress over the coming months. There is much to admire about the set up that Surrey Smashers currently has in place and their good start to the new league format is a reflection of all the hard work that has been put into the club. Sport in Profile Magazine would like to wish them the best of luck. “ Steve’s experience in coaching world class players is second to none “ Coach Hayley Connor added, “Steve’s experience in coaching world class players is second to none. He will be a huge addition to the club and has already settled in nicely to our set-up. He is an awesome coach and I cannot wait to work with him through this season.” This appointment should have everyone involved confident of a successful campaign.
