[RYGBI GOGLEDD

Based at Parc Eirias in Conwy, Rygbi Gogledd Cymru (RGC) is a club that does a lot of good
work both on and off the field. They recently took on Swansea in front of a crowd of over
1,000 people and Sport in Profile Magazine takes a look back at the fixture.
The weather favoured RGC due to
the rapid winds which Swansea, who
were first out of the blocks, faced.
However, Swansea’s full back, Nicky
Thomas, managed to prove that the
winds weren’t going to stop this team
from taking a second minute win. The
full back manages to convert his own
try to secure the Whites a 0-7 lead.
From the management of territory
and majority of possession, it was
clear that Swansea weren’t going to
let RGC gain any drive in the opening
quarter of the match. There were
nearing grey faces during the opening
quarter of the match when the hosting
pack was shoved off their own ball at
a scrum. However, the young Gogs
stuck to their mission during the
game and the roles were reversed on
a number of scoring chances as the
home team got their momentum in full
swing in the set piece.
RGC’s hopes were raised as Rhodri
Carlton-Jones kicked a penalty on the
twenty minute mark. But, this closing
of the gap was short-lived as Swansea
stretched their lead with a well-worked
try after 23 minutes, scored by scrum
half Scott Maynard, to lead 3-12.
Despite the best efforts of Afon
Bagshaw who made a number of
great breaks which failed just short
of the line, the home crowd remained
supportive as the team gave it their
best shot to score against Swansea.
With half time approaching, the crowd
were then treated to a jackpot of points
as Mike Sully scored for the visitors.
