BC Crawley United’s preparations are well
underway as they get ready to compete in the
National League this season. Sport in Profile
Magazine caught up with their Manager and
Coach Donatas Jurgelionis to find out more.
Involvement
He told us, “BC Crawley United was founded by myself and
current team captain Tadas Domkus in April, 2013. The club
was founded with the aim of bringing National Level basketball
to Crawley town.
For the last few years there was no basketball club in Crawley
that could offer the chance for talented basketball players to
perform at the National Level which was a shame as we saw a
lot of talented players around that had no option to play semi
Professional basketball locally.”
Foundation
“We decided to have a go; we built the club from scratch asking
all known players to come and play for us. At the same time
we were completing the club administration to undertake all
necessary work regarding club development. We applied
to play in the Sussex Basketball League and the result was
outstanding; just in the first year of the club‘s history we became
Sussex Basketball League Champions, winning 18 games out
of 20.
Our winning path attracted local newspapers, we started to
get articles after every game we played, local people started
to visit our website and step by step we became one of the
best known basketball clubs in Sussex. In the upcoming season
BC Crawley United will represent Crawley town in the England
Basketball National League and we are working hard to be
ready to perform well, even at national level.”

The Role
“The most challenging aspect for me is the club’s sponsorship.
Our club still a very young in terms of playing history and a lot
of local businesses still do not recognize our brand. Others just
prefer to sponsor the most popular sports such as football or
rugby.
