LEICESTER LIONS
Leicester Lions Speedway has just come to the end of their season and has already begun
planning for improvement ahead of the 2015 campaign. Sport in Profile Magazine looks back
at their 2014 effort and what the future holds for them.
“
There does not
seem to be any
reason why they
cannot claim
a considerably
higher league
position.
It would be fair to say that they didn’t
perhaps enjoy the season that they
would have liked this time around as
they put together a record of 8 wins,
1 draw and 23 defeats from their 32
fixtures. This left them lying at the
bottom of the table with 25 points on
the board.
They will be looking for improvement in
2015 and it will be important for them
to be able to pick up more points when
they are away from their home venue.
If they can do so then their does not
seem to be any reason why they
cannot claim a considerably higher
league position.
Both their Promoter David Helmsley
and Team Manager Norrie Allen
recently travelled to the final round of
the Grand Prix Series in Poland with
the target of speaking to Jason Doyle
and another unknown rider.
“
Doyle, the Rapid Solicitors Lions
number 1, held a preliminary discussion
with Norrie Allan on practice day but
was unable to make an appointment to
talk with Helmsley on the Saturday.
Speaking to their official website after
the event Helmsley said, ““It was a little
disappointing that the meeting did not
happen but it was not a total waste of
time as it gave me an opportunity to
have a discussion with another rider
who we are interested in offering terms
to and Norrie was able to sound out
other options we have in mind about
the possibility of riding for Leicester
next season.
We acknowledge that we can only go
so far with team building plans because
until the points limit has been decided
at next month’s Annual General
