ISLE OF MAN TT ISLE OF MAN TT The Isle of Man TT Races, powered by Monster Energy, once again provided some truly classic races this year as they continued to reinforce their status as one of the greatest motorcycle road races in the world. The course itself has been largely untouched since 1911 with 37 miles of public road providing a terrific course for a fierce competition. With tight roads, narrow villages and open spaces over the mountain tops the TT course is truly breath-taking and provides the ultimate test for man and machine. Overall the event was a superb success, providing a high quality competition once again. This is a truly unique event and hopefully they will be able to continue to serve up the same standard of racing for many years to come. Everyone at Sport in Profile Magazine would like to congratulate them on their success. In the Formula 1 Classic TT Bruce Anstey produced a fantastic performance to claim victory aboard the two-stroke Padgetts Racing YZR Yamaha. He also set a new lap record of 123.894mph with his time being the fastest ever on the twostroke lap of the TT mountain Course. Last year’s winner Michael Dunlop had led proceedings for the three-lap race with Anstey edging to a three-second advantage over James Hillier before going on to set his record breaking lap. Anstey and Dunlop both chose to come in for fuel at the end of the first lap which allowed Hillier and Steve Mercer to go through. Dunlop however began to lose time and Anstey continued to come on strong, passing him in the 2nd lap. He retired at the end of the 2nd lap and with Hillier choosing to pit, Anstey reclaimed the lead and pushed on to build up a 53-second lead at Glen Helen on the final lap. There was no stopping him from here as he went on to take the victory with Hillier in 2nd and Russ Mountford in 3rd. MV Augusta’s Lee Johnston won the 350cc Classic TT race, becoming the first Italian marque’s TT win since the 1970’s. Yamaha stole the show in the Formula 2 Classic TT race as Bennetts 500cc Ian Lougher claimed the victory with a superb performance as he claimed the victory from Chris Moore and Stuart Garton. www.sportip.co.uk 29
