SHEFFIELD TIGERS SHEFFIELD TIGERS Sheffield Tigers Speedway is based at the Owlerton Stadium on Penistone Road in South Yorkshire and they currently compete in the Premier League. They are led by President Reg Wilson with Joe Screen working as the Team Manager and they are looking to progress under their guidance. “ One of the major positives this year was the performances of hometown hero d. Size - 124mm x 87mm, x1. Simon Stead. They have put together a history of which they have every right to be proud and one of their most successful seasons came in 1999 when they managed to win the treble. This treble included the Four Teams Championship, the League and the Young Shield and was a tremendous achievement for everyone involved. 1 This was one of the most successful periodsof in the team’s history and they claimed another treble in 2002, winning the League, the Young Shield and the Knock out cup. The current group of riders will be keen to add to these successes over the coming years. It would be fair to say that 2014 did not perhaps go the way that they would have liked as they put together a record of 9 wins, 1 draw and 18 defeats from their 28 fixtures. This saw them finish near the bottom of the table with 25 points on the board. “ They will be keen for an improved performance next year and so long as they are able to retain their top riders they should have a good chance of doing so. It will certainly be exciting to see how they are able to get on. Speaking after the success, Stead said, “It’s been amazing day. I’ve got lots of friends and sponsors here, not to mention my family and all the supporters of Sheffield speedway so this is for them. I’m a little bit lost for words, it just means so much. Thanks to everyone for their support, especially the Sheffield fans for their backing all year.” The Sheffield Fans were then given the opportunity to mix with their heroes at the 26 ISSUE 02 1
