POOLE PIRATES
Poole Pirates Speedway is based on Wimbourne Road in Dorset and they have achieved
tremendous success in recent times. They are led by Club owner Matthew Ford and Team
Manager Neil Middleditch and have made tremendous progress under their guidance.
In 2013 they suffered a difficult season
with a number of their riders suffering
injuries. They did not let this put them off
though as they battled their way into the
play-offs. This saw them take on Swindon
who had finished 2nd in the table.
With Swindon at home they claimed a
10 point victory but the Pirates pulled
out a terrific performance to win by 55
points to 38 in order to make it to the final
against Birmingham who won both of
their semi-final legs against Midland rivals
Wolverhampton.
by 90 points to 71 over two legs. They
managed to win the away leg and made no
mistake closing out the tie to successfully
retain the title.
The success the team has achieved over
the past two years is a testament to the
superb work that has been done by those
involved. They appear to have everything
in place to enable them to look forwards to
a bright and successful future and Sport in
Profile Magazine would like to wish them
the best of luck.
This meant that Birmingham arrived at
Poole for the first leg full of confidence but
Poole, who were still suffering with injuries
to Rohan Tungate and Micky Dyer, took
control to give themselves a lead of 21
points to defend in the 2nd leg.
They were able to finish the job in the 2nd
leg to claim a truly memorable title after
a season that was full of ups and downs.
