TIR CONAILL HARPS TIR CONAILL HARPS Tir Conaill Harps is a community registered charity which gives young people an opportunity to play gaelic and celtic sports such as gaelic football, hurling and camogie. They pride themselves on welcoming members regardless of their ability or age. The club is able to offer a wide range of coaching and personal development opportunities for its members. The club is led by Chairman Maurice Friel who is supported by Secretary Grace McBride and the club is looking to progress under their guidance. They state on their official website that their mission statement is, “To strengthen communities in Glasgow through the provision of gaelic sports for young people in an affordable, safe and fun environment.” Their men’s gaelic football team consists of 26 registered members that come from various countries. They do however pride themselves upon having a number of Scottish born players that have come through their underage setup. This is vital because it often helps supporters to relate to the club if there are players from the local area. This should help more of the community to get behind the team which will help them to continue to be successful. 66 ISSUE 01 The club has certainly made a tremendous amount of progress since they were recently able to celebrate their 20th anniversary fun day. Everybody had a great day in what was a fitting celebration of what they have achieved and hopefully they will be able to continue in the same manner for many years to come. “To strengthen communities in Glasgow through the provision of gaelic sports for young people in an affordable, safe and fun environment.” Their first team has put together a solid run of form so far this time around, having compiled a record of 3 wins and 2 defeats from their 5 matches. They will have been disappointed in their last 2 results however and will be keen to bounce back as quickly as possible. So long as they can do so they still have a good chance of piecing together a successful campaign.
