Anna Melling coins the dance style “Its best described as Diversity with pom poms” Running 20 Street Cheer sessions each week in the North East FDA has 15 competitive crews that compete on a National and European level. FDA travelled to the prestigious Manchester Velodrome on the 5th & 6th July with 58 competitors along with teams from Germany, Slovenia, Poland, Russia and Latvia to battle it out for the European Titles in Street Cheer. Having scooped the titles in the UK championships in March this year in the Mini Peeps, Peeps, Unit and Masters Categories in addition to FDA dancer and coach Emma Dickens (16) winning the UK Freestyle title FDA were invited by the UK Cheerleading Association to represent the UK at European level. They were delighted to come away with the First place in the Masters (adult) category and are now European champions! As well as scooping a very respectable 2nd, 3rd and 4th place in other categories. “Its such an honor to represent our county doing something we all love, it’s amazing that Street Cheer is sweeping Europe and we were so proud to dance for our county and bring back some trophies” Lucy Coull, Team Captain of ‘Krysis’ Masters crew said, “Its just amazing to think in the space of a year what our crew has achieved, we are normal working Mums and Dads and to have the opportunity to not only represent your region but also your county is phenomenal! FDA give so many opportunities to the kids and parents who take part and I would urge anyone who’s thinking about Street Cheer or any type of dance, give it a go!
