Anna Melling coins the dance style “Its best described
as Diversity with pom poms”
Running 20 Street Cheer sessions each week in the
North East FDA has 15 competitive crews that compete
on a National and European level.
FDA travelled to the prestigious Manchester Velodrome
on the 5th & 6th July with 58 competitors along with
teams from Germany, Slovenia, Poland, Russia and
Latvia to battle it out for the European Titles in Street
Cheer.
Having scooped the titles in the UK championships
in March this year in the Mini Peeps, Peeps, Unit and
Masters Categories in addition to FDA dancer and
coach Emma Dickens (16) winning the UK Freestyle
title FDA were invited by the UK Cheerleading
Association to represent the UK at European level.
They were delighted to come away with the First place
in the Masters (adult) category and are now European
champions! As well as scooping a very respectable
2nd, 3rd and 4th place in other categories.
“Its such an honor to represent our
county doing something we all love,
it’s amazing that Street Cheer is
sweeping Europe and we were so
proud to dance for our county and
bring back some trophies”
Lucy Coull, Team Captain of ‘Krysis’ Masters crew said,
“Its just amazing to think in the space of a year
what our crew has achieved, we are normal working
Mums and Dads and to have the opportunity to not
only represent your region but also your county is
phenomenal! FDA give so many opportunities to the
kids and parents who take part and I would urge
anyone who’s thinking about Street Cheer or any type
of dance, give it a go! You never know where it might
lead!”
