ENGLAND NETBALL
Competing in the Commonwealth Games, the
England Netball Team suffered heartbreak as they
narrowly lost 3 crucial matches. The first of their
defeats came when they lost to Australia in the
group stage by a single point.
“Having won bronze medals at the
last two competitions the defeat
will have been tough to take,
however they should not be too
downhearted.”
Then in the semi-final they again lost a close match
against New Zealand, eventually going down again by
just a point to miss out on their first appearance in a
gold medal match.
This set them up for the tie against Jamaica in the
bronze medal match which proved to be another hard
fought encounter. Heading into the final quarter at 37
points a-piece England were unable to come up with a
clutch performance as they slumped from being 48-47
down to a final score of 52-48.
Having won bronze medals at the last two competitions
the defeat will have been tough to take, however
they should not be too downhearted. The side proved
that they were capable of competing with anyone in
the competition and as long as they learn from the
experience they can be confident of achieving plenty of
success in the years to come.
Sport in Profile Magazine takes a more in depth look at
the commitment it takes to be a successful International
Netball Player. In the modern day game the team
receives far more coverage than previously and they
come under considerable scrutiny based on whether
they succeed or fail.
