They are led by the team of President Richard Wilkinson and Chairman Mark Littlechild and are looking to progress under their guidance. Their first team put together a solid campaign last time around as they compiled a record of 15 wins, a draw and 10 defeats from their 26 league matches. This saw them finish in the top half of the table with 85 points on the board. “A major highlight of the team’s performances last season was the miserly defensive record that they established.” A major highlight of the team’s performances last season was the miserly defensive record that they established. They have gained a reputation for being a tough tackling, physical side that have high quality defensive players as well as very good organisation which is a testament to their coaching team. It will be important to use this as a platform from which to build as they look to the future and they have got off to a good start in the league with a 23 points to 7 victory over Ryton. As long as they are able to retain their current group of players they appear well positioned for a successful campaign. Being so competent defensively can only help to build the confidence in the side and give them the freedom to play an attacking brand of rugby. They will be looking to continue their strong defensive work as they head into the new season. One of the standout features of the Durham City set up is the superb youth section that they currently have in place. This part of the club looks to provide young players from the local area with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential. 28 ISSUE 01
