BEDWAS They have undergone a busy summer as they look to improve and have added to their coaching staff with the addition of Llyr Lane. Llyr has played for sides including Newport, Ebbw Vale and Cardiff as well as having experience of coaching roles at Ebbw Vale and Neath. Llyr is set to work alongside Head Coach Steve Law, Forwards Coach Ian Gardner, assistant forwards coach Pat Mcgee and Strength, Conditioning and Assistant backs coach Stefan Sankala. Speaking to the club’s official website, Llyr said, “Its great to be here at Bedwas and hopefully I can pass on some of my experience to the excellent squad Bedwas have assembled this year.” The club has a history of having high quality players representing them and one of these is Richard Powell who holds the record for the most points scored in a season with 186 in 2011/12. He has also recorded their highest number of points in a game with 26 against Cross Keys. Their leading try scorer is Stuart Thomas who has crossed the line an impressive 27 times whilst fellow player Devi Mattravers has 20 to his name. They have also had 5 players to have scored hat-tricks. with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential. It is important for any club to be able to produce their own talent, particularly in the current financial climate and this is an area that they appear to have covered. Coaching staff overseeing their development are confident that they have a number of players with the potential to enjoy a bright future. There is much to admire about the set-up that Bedwas currently has in place and this is allowing them to play a vital role in their local community. Hopefully they will be able to continue the good work that they have been doing for many years to come and Sport in Profile Magazine would like to wish them the best of luck. The club is clearly committed to finding and producing more quality players and this is reflected by the superb youth section that they have in place.
