LIVERPOOL LIONS
Liverpool Lions Wheelchair Rugby Club has been
established since 2012. They originally gave
people a chance to play Wheelchair Rugby League
and now also offer Wheelchair rugby 7s Union.
Sport in Profile Magazine caught up with Club
Representative Martin Beddis to find out more.
Beginnings
He said, “I was the lead person in the Creation of
the Liverpool Lions WRC back in October 2012. I
wanted to create a team after finishing as League One
Champions with Bury Jigsaw. I decided upon the name,
then realised there was a running team in Liverpool
with the same name. I approached them to clear the
way to use the name, but then afterwards we decided
to come under their wing and for them to provide us
with a committee structure so I could concentrate on
player equipment, funding applications and training the
team.
Next on Board was to find a suitable venue. I have
played many wheelchair sports at Greenbank Sports
Academy, in Liverpool. They were ideal as a central
disability centre within the North West. They put me
