CHAPTER 8
Mail Man
by Mary Gray
One day, Holly a jolly young lady was in her room, when she heard the doorbell
ring. She went downstairs to see who was there, and saw that a letter had been
slipped under her door. She looked at the letter, but all it had on it was the number
10. She didn’t know what it meant, but didn’t think much of it. The next day, the
doorbell rang again. Holly went downstairs and saw another letter, but this one
had the number 9. Day after day she got a new letter counting down, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4,
3, 2. On the day she got the letter that had the number 2, she started freaking out.
She went to her friend’s house, and explained what was happening. Her friend
said Holly could stay at her house. Holly was relieved knowing she was finally safe
from the ghost, monster, or whatever it was. The next day Holly’s friend went to
go get lunch for them. Holly was in the guest room, where she was staying, when
she heard the doorbell ring. She went downstairs and saw a letter that had been
slipped under the door. She gasped and picked up the letter. She looked at it and it
read: 1 times up. Then, Holly heard the floor creak behind her. She turned
around and the last thing she saw was a ghostly figure dressed like a mailman.
Later that day when Holly’s friend got back, she found that her friend was gone.
She was looking for Holly when she heard the doorbell ring. She went to see who
was there and saw a letter that had been slipped under her door. She picked it up
but all it said was the number 10.
