CHAPTER 5 October 31st by Alex Johnson   It was a crisp October night and I was out with my friends, when it happened.   It was Halloween and we were just going to start trick or treating.  With every step we took there was a crunch because of all the dead fallen leaves.  We were headed to the edge of town to start our night, when we came upon a graveyard.  Just by looking at the graveyard it made shivers run up my spine.  We decided to have a race through the graveyard.  I was feeling nervous and exited, but also scared because we were going through a graveyard on Halloween night! “Ready, set, go!” I was dashing over and around the many headstones. I realized I was in the lead because none of my friends were in front of me.  “First!” I yelled as I crossed the finish line.  I waited awhile, but no one came.  So I walked back into the graveyard to look for my friends.  Then a thick layer of fog surrounded me.  Still I kept walking.  I heard whispers and my stomach started churning.  I could feel the beads of sweat on my forehead.  I started thinking that my friends had pulled a prank on me.  Maybe they never even ran and were going to leap out and scare me!  I wanted to leave the graveyard because I was scared and it was getting late.  I kept walking, but still no one came.  Finally, I yelled, “Okay, you win, I’m scared and tired of looking for you so you can come out now!”  There was no response.  Then though the fog I saw a figure.  I ran towards it thinking it was one of my friends, but it was a ghostly figure and too tall to be any of my friends.  I started to turn and run, but tripped on a headstone.  I looked at the headstone and it had one of my friends name on it!  When I got up, I looked at the other three headstones nearby, and they had my other friends names on them!  Right in front of the graves was freshly packed dirt. When I turned around the figure was standing right in front of me. The figure grabbed me and dragged me over to a casket 10
