day, and freezing temperatures. Although they faced quite some obstacles, the skaters
managed to skate the legendary pool unauthorized.
Nowadays the kidney shaped pool from Finland is used as an inspiration to
recreate thousands of pools in skateparks all over the world. These skateparks are all
so entertaining and enjoyable thanks to one man, Alvar Aalto.
Why do skaters skate pools and not bathtubs and showers?
In 1975, California experienced a drought. During that period everyone was
careful on the way they spent their water. This caused people to put bricks in their toilet
water tanks to use less water, restaurants to use disposable plates and most
importantly people did not fill their new pools with water. This created new playgrounds
for skaters. Skaters invented tricks in the empty pools during the 1970’s which are still
performed and admired nowadays.
