SPLICED Issue 04\r\n\r\nTHE LEGO JACKER\r\n\r\nISSUE 04\r\n\r\nabout seeing the world reduced to tiny figures\r\neven if the situation/ environment around it is\r\nugly. I think the use of Lego reconnects many\r\nadults with their childhood, and that is quite\r\na powerful platform to create art, engage\r\npeople and occasionally share an important\r\nmessage or cause.\r\nWhat inspires your pictures? They all differ\r\ngreatly from one another, with the exception\r\nthat they all reference popular culture.\r\nI think the idea of reflecting the human condition\r\nthrough toys is what drives me. Sometimes that\r\nrepresentation is whimsical, the everyday made\r\nmagical. Sometimes I use LEGO to reinterpret\r\nstreet art, art which this city is very famous for.\r\nAnd sometimes my pictures can get very dark\r\nreflecting real world events like Gezi Park, Syria,\r\nUkraine, Child Slavery and Boat people.\r\nWhat is your favourite Lego object you\'ve\r\nbuilt or alternatively something you aspire\r\nto build?\r\nI guess my photography is primarily based\r\naround shooting mini figures, so my favourite\r\nLego objects are the characters. I don\'t really\r\nhave a favourite, because I\'m generally mashing\r\nthem all up to create new characters. I don\'t\r\noperate by the book. In that sense I don\'t build a\r\nhuge amount of the model sets because I use the\r\nreal world as the setting. That being said I would\r\nlove to build the large Sydney Opera House Lego\r\nset, because I used to live in Sydney and that\r\nplace holds many amazing memories. That and\r\nmaybe the Lego Death Star.\r\nWhich Lego set would you like them to make\r\nthat doesn\'t already exist?\r\nLego toys have such amazing education\r\npotential that I would love to see Lego take on\r\nthe responsibility of profiling a global cause,\r\nlike climate change, ending child slavery and\r\nbuilding a Lego set to reflect that. They could\r\neven donate proceeds from the sets to charities\r\nsupporting that. Although I think we can safely\r\nput that into the never going to happen box. I\r\nmight have to build it first.\r\nWhen Meatloaf said he would do anything\r\nfor love, but he won\'t do that, what do you\r\nthink he meant? ;)\r\nI think Meatloaf was clearly singing about not\r\nwanting to sell off his Lego collection. \r\n\r\n35\r\n\r\n
