SPLICED Issue 04\r\n\r\nINTERVIEW with KERON GRANT\r\n\r\nAN AUDIENCE WITH\r\n\r\nby Chris Savides\r\n\r\nKERON GRANT\r\nKeron Grant hails from Montego Bay, Jamaica. He left the island paradise and moved\r\nto America with his family as a teenager. The new surroundings, as well as the vast pop\r\nculture on hand was the catalyst that fuelled his desire to create, and boy are we lucky\r\nhe did. He’s since gone on to work for some of the biggest companies in America,\r\nwhich spans from work in comics with Image and DC, to games and films. We\r\ncaught up with Keron on Skype to ask him a few questions.\r\nSpliced Magazine: Hi Keron, thank you\r\nfor taking the time to talk with us. You’re\r\na hard man to get a hold of!\r\nKeron Grant: [Laughs] it’s a pleasure,\r\nthanks very much for having me. At last\r\nwe’re doing the interview. I read through\r\nall the issues of your magazine, it’s really\r\nimpressive so thanks for the opportunity!\r\nSM: Thank you very much. Your\r\nhomeland is Jamaica, how long have you\r\nbeen in the States for?\r\nKG: Well, I moved to the States when I was\r\n15, so I’ve been here 22 years now. But I still\r\nconsider Jamaica to be my home. I miss it,\r\nbut living in New York is also great.\r\nSM: Did your love of art start in Jamaica\r\nor only once you got to America?\r\nKG: Look, I’ve been drawing since I can\r\nremember. I started as a kid when I was about\r\nfour or five, it was just something I always\r\nremember doing and always loved doing.\r\nOnce I got to the States I was blown away\r\nby all the pop culture and comics that I was\r\nsurrounded with. So that defiantly helped\r\nwith inspiration for my own art. I went to\r\ncollege and actually studied industrial design\r\nand fine art. While I was still in college I got a\r\nfew jobs from Image comics and that really\r\nwas the start of things.\r\n\r\n28\r\n\r\nKeron\'s art captures\r\nthe beauty in the\r\nfemale form as well as\r\nthe intricasies of the\r\nmuscle cars. A beautiful\r\nmarriage of curves, both\r\norganic and mechanical.\r\n\r\n
