SPLICED Issue 04\r\n\r\nISSUE 04\r\n\r\nMUSIC / DAN LE SAC VS. SCROOBIUS PIP\r\n\r\nIN CASE YOU MISSED IT\r\n\r\nIn case you’re wondering where to get all these weird and wonderful tchoons (boet), do yourself\r\na massive favour and check out www.deezer.com. It’s especially great for the local stuff you\r\nthought would never make it on the webs since Myspace lame-ified, and subscription fees are\r\nnegligible. Yay! Paying for the music people work so hard to produce is fun!\r\nby Sarah Browne\r\n\r\nDan le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip / Angles (2008)\r\nI don’t even know how to begin praising this musical and poetic masterpiece. These two\r\nwhite lads from England sure do know how to break it the fuck down.\r\nDan le Sac is the less-good-looking musical\r\nwizard behind the turntable, while Pip is the\r\nbearded bard who could give the original Bard a run\r\nfor his money. Is this hip hop? Yes. Is it guns, bitches,\r\nand bling? Hells no. In fact, it couldn’t be further.\r\nIt’s some seriously life-changing stuff that manages\r\nto also be crazily beat-tastic, just to keep you from\r\ncontemplating ALL THE POETIC THINGS from\r\nwithin an inch of your relative sanity. Have a listen\r\nto Pip’s solo stuff too. None of it will disappoint you\r\n(unless you have impossible standards, in which\r\ncase, stop that).\r\n\r\nBEST TRACKS\r\nThou Shalt Always\r\nKill / With music\r\nsubtly reminiscent\r\nof a Sega game and\r\nnext-level lyrics, these\r\ncommandments are\r\nones you not only want\r\nto live by, but dance to\r\ntoo. It tells you sensible\r\nthings like “thou shalt\r\nnot question Stephen\r\nFry,” and “though shalt\r\nnot wish your girlfriend\r\nwas a freak like me,”\r\nwhich, you know, win.\r\nSuch honest. So electro.\r\nMuch rap. Wow.\r\n\r\n26\r\n\r\nThe Beat That My\r\nHeart Skipped / “And\r\nit goes like: bum bum\r\nbum bah-dee b aaah” is\r\nwhat you’ll be singing\r\nall day, son. All day! This\r\nis an incredible song\r\nin its own right, but as\r\nan energizing intro to a\r\nstellar album? Oh man,\r\nit’s like a war cry leading\r\ninto the imminent\r\nbattle for awesome. It\r\nwins, by the way.\r\n\r\n
