SPLICED Issue 04\r\n\r\nREVIEW - GARMIN VIVOFIT FITNESS TRACKER\r\n\r\nby Amanda Stone\r\n\r\nGarmin Vivofit\r\nFitness Tracker\r\nGarmin’s new Vivofit is the sports watch meet fitness band\r\nwe didn’t even realised we were waiting for. Until now.\r\nRRP / R1899 or R2299 (including heart rate monitor bundle) \r\nONLINE / sites.garmin.com/vivo\r\n\r\nYou may be tempted to write this\r\nlittle gadget off as “just another\r\nfitness band” trying to establish\r\nits place in an already fairly saturated\r\nmarket. (Because that’s pretty much\r\nhow I felt.) But let me say this upfront\r\nand honestly; it’s not.\r\nRight off the bat I noticed that\r\nthis fitness band has a screen. It has a\r\nsimple, informative LED display that\r\nallows you to see all your basic stats at\r\na glance. Suddenly, this band had my\r\nattention. Because while we generally\r\nuse things like fitness bands to try\r\nand decrease laziness – let’s face it\r\n- syncing bands to phones and sites\r\nevery time we want to see our step\r\ncount or calories burnt is a bit of a\r\nhassle. Not only this, but the display\r\nactually tells the time too. Bonus.\r\nIt features different display screens\r\nwhich you are able to skip between by\r\n\r\n14\r\n\r\npressing the (there’s only one) button.\r\nThe different displays each provide\r\ndaily information on different stats;\r\nincluding steps taken, calories burned,\r\ndistance walked, users heart rate, step\r\ngoal for the day (and how much further\r\nyou have to go), pace, and then the\r\ntime. (Yay for instant gratification.) The\r\ntracker also displays a super useful red\r\n“move bar” when you’ve been slothing\r\nit out for over an hour, reminding\r\nyou to move. For every addition 15\r\nminutes you stay stationary, the red\r\nbar extends. I found this pretty neat\r\nbecause while you’re being reminded\r\nto move, you’re not being persistently\r\nharassed by a vibrating device on\r\nyour arm while in the middle of a\r\nboard room meeting and unable to do\r\nanything about it.\r\nDesign wise, the display face is\r\nremovable and each device comes with\r\ntwo different sized, rubber type bands\r\n\r\nISSUE 04\r\n\r\n\r\n
