Where do you begin with a hero as timeless as The Mighty Thor? Centuries before
his reimagining as a Marvel superhero, the God of Thunder had been birthed by Norse
Mythology as more than just a fearsome deity with the power to command deadly
storms. Thor was simultaneously seen as a Scandinavian symbol of fertility, healing and
strength – and as a being charged with the protection of humankind.
Fast forward to August of 1962, and a new superhero is born under the Marvel
Comics banner. Created by plotter/editor Stan Lee, scripter Larry Lieber
