John “ Tater ” Harris
Tater Harris ’ journey began far from his Alabama roots , when he met his future wife , Sarah , on a summer day in Lima , Peru , in 2010 . Not long after , they traveled to Tater ’ s home state , where they quickly fell in love with the charm of Orange Beach , its pristine beaches , and its thriving community .
A Life of Adventure , Business , and Community Impact
Tater ’ s entrepreneurial spirit soon took center stage . After marrying Sarah in 2015 , they spent nine years living and traveling across the U . S ., exploring places like the Caribbean , Chicago , and Northern California . It was in 2016 , after purchasing a Polaris Slingshot , that Tater discovered the thrill of open-air driving . Wanting to share that experience , he founded Gulf Coast Rental Co ., renting out Slingshots , Jeep Wranglers , and LSVs to locals and tourists . His goal was simple : provide affordable , five-star experiences that capture the freedom of the open road .
Tater ’ s vision didn ’ t stop there . Inspired by a trip to Hawaii , he expanded the business to include beach and baby equipment rentals , recognizing a need for high-quality options in his own community . He also launched overflow parking services , ensuring Orange Beach ’ s visitors and residents had convenient solutions during peak seasons .
More than just a businessman , Tater is dedicated to giving back . His involvement as a sponsor with the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber reflects his commitment to supporting local businesses and fostering economic growth . Tater ’ s belief in community runs deep , and he ’ s become a trusted figure in Orange Beach for his leadership and philanthropic work .
Tater and Sarah will co-chair the American Heart Association Baldwin Art for Heart Gala , a prestigious event on April 5th at the Oasis of Orange Beach . They are already working hard planning and raising funds for the upcoming event . It ’ s just one of many ways Tater continues to make an impact .
Outside of his professional life , Tater is passionate about politics and is gearing up for a run for City Council in Orange Beach in 2025 .
