Carol and I have been Game of Thrones fans since the beginning. Over the years, we’ ve watched and rewatched every twist, every betrayal, and every dragon flight. So when we started planning our next trip together, we thought— why not go where the show was filmed? That’ s how we ended up walking the ancient walls of Dubrovnik, Croatia, pretending( only half-jokingly) that we ruled the Seven Kingdoms.
Dubrovnik is stunning. The old city is surrounded by massive stone walls with views of the Adriatic that make you stop and just take it all in. It’ s no wonder they used it for King’ s Landing. We signed up for a Game of Thrones tour and it was one of the highlights of the trip. Our guide pointed out all the iconic filming locations— from the Red Keep( actually Lovrijenac Fortress) to the steps where Cersei took her walk of shame. It was surreal standing in those spots, seeing how the show brought them to life.

But the real fun began when we got to dress up. There was a shop near the Old Town that had costumes and a replica of the Iron Throne. I couldn’ t resist putting on a flowing blue dress and channeling my inner Daenerys. No wig for me— just my blonde hair and a lot of attitude. Carol, always the bold one, picked a fitted black leather dress and owned the role of Queen Cersei. We posed on the Iron Throne like we belonged there, and I have to say, we looked pretty convincing. A few other tourists asked if they could take our photo. We laughed, but also secretly loved it.
