A Legacy of Justice and Advocacy

More than just a podcast , Murder Creek Media is a movement . Their storytelling makes a difference , inspiring change and impacting the lives of those who have been silenced . The founder , Neeli Faulkner , a native of Orange Beach , is deeply connected to the region ’ s history and is passionate about using media as a force for good .
The name " Murder Creek " might seem unusual at first , but it carries a powerful historical significance rooted in a tragic event and the relentless pursuit of justice — values that are at the core of Murder Creek Media ' s mission .
In 1788 , during the turbulent times of the Revolutionary War , a tragic incident occurred in what is now Conecuh County , Alabama . Colonel McGillivray , a Creek chieftain , had formed alliances with several loyalists , including Colonel Kirkland of South Carolina . On their journey to Pensacola , Florida , Kirkland , along with his son , nephew , and a few others , stayed at McGillivray ' s home . Concerned for their safety , McGillivray entrusted a loyal servant to guide them .
As Kirkland ' s party camped by a creek one night , they were ambushed by a notorious group led by Istillicha , a feared Hillabee Indian , and two others — a fugitive murderer named Cat and a violent man named Bob , who was enslaved by a local trader . Under the cover of darkness , the assailants brutally murdered Kirkland and his companions , sparing only three enslaved men .
Upon hearing of the massacre the next day , McGillivray acted swiftly . He dispatched men to capture the murderers , managing to apprehend Cat while the others escaped .

In a determined act of justice , McGillivray ' s agent , Milfort , transported Cat back to the scene of the crime . There , at the blood-stained creek , Cat was executed , symbolizing a measure of justice for the heinous act that had been committed .
This creek , forever marked by the tragedy , became known as Murder Creek — a name that echoes both the horror of the crime and the unyielding pursuit of justice .
Murder Creek Media draws profound inspiration from this story . Just as McGillivray sought justice for the slain travelers , Murder Creek Media strives to uncover the truth and advocate for those who have been wrongfully convicted . Their name serves as a reminder of the enduring fight against injustice and a commitment to shining a light on the wrongs within the criminal justice system .
