Feature WHY IS THANKSGIVING IMPORTANT? Thanksgiving Day Thanksgiving began as a day of giving thanks and sacrifice for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. It is celebrated as a national holiday in the United States, Canada, some of the Caribbean islands, and Liberia, but held on various dates. In the United States, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. It’s a time where family members take the opportunity to assemble and enjoy a day filled with good food, football, and the big annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. While Thanksgiving Day is good, the practice of giving thanks daily is also crucial. The importance of Thanksgiving Thanksgiving is important because it encourages thankfulness. We live in a world filled with a lot of negativity, hurt, and pain. However, identifying with things in our lives in which we are thankful for can completely change our attitude and give us a renewed perspective on life.
