Elliya Sarah Young

Elliya Sarah Young was born on July 25th, 2008 in the town of St. George, Grenada, West Indies. She is the second of four children( her two brothers and cousin) and is the sole daughter of hard-working, supportive and loving parents; Mr. Elvis Young and Mrs. Wendy Avril- Young.
Elliya began her formal academic journey in 2011 at the Green Street Pre-Primary school. In 2013 she moved on to attain her primary education at St. Louis Girls’ R. C. School and in 2020 she matriculated to secondary level, where she currently attends St. Joseph’ s Convent, located in St. George’ s.
Elliya has always had a love for dancing and singing and as a member of the Spice Land Dance group and her former primary school choir; despite her reserve demeanour, she enjoyed expressing herself in song at church and dancing at concerts.
Now at St. Joseph’ s Convent St. George’ s, she took her talent to a whole new level when she enrolled in an Independence Singing Competition at her school in February 2021. The song;“ My land”, was done simply for fun to support her class and was surprisingly completed and submitted in four days. This rendition made waves, earning her the 1st place winner at school.
“ My Land” was composed by Elliya Young, musical by Mr. Lincoln Morgan, video shoots and costumes by her mom; Mrs. Wendy Avril-Young and video edits and publishing by Mr. Garwin Walter.
In Elliya’ s words“ I pushed myself with the support of family and close friends. I have bridged my fears and have embraced my talent to explore my full potential. It is truly a wonderful feeling to achieve this.”
A huge thank you to everyone who helped to publish this song.
Elliya is looking forward to performing“ My Land” at the 4th Spice Island Cultural Festival virtually from her island, Grenada, on July 10.
Don’ t miss her contribution to the children’ s section of the Festival.
