Known for its spices , cultures , and festivals , one aspect of Grenada not often spoken of , is its ability to provide a transferable foundation for success . One such shining example is embodied in Louise Noel-Ambrose , event specialist , public relations guru , recipient of the Hamilton YWCA Women of Distinction Award , and recognized as one of the 100 Black Women to Watch in Canada .
Even without words , Louise ' s body language , bright eyes , and hearty laugh , lets you know that this is a confident , grounded woman with a little extra spiciness in her veins . A self-starter in her own right , Louise is quick to credit her homeland with giving her the sense-of-self responsible for much of her success in life .
Migrating to Canada as a teenager , she was introduced to life as a visible minority and all the challenges it connotes . There were simple facts of her life as a Grenadian that she took for granted as a child , but were instrumental in preparing her with the fortitude and resilience she would need to succeed . Having been raised surrounded by excellence , and seeing role models of high esteem from the island that looked like her , she knew that despite the low expectations of her from the education system and society at large , there were no limits to what she could achieve .
She vividly recalls at a very young age , having the temerity to put people in their places when it came to knowing her value and
understanding her self-worth , something many struggle with into their 30 ' s , let alone a teenage girl in a foreign land surrounded by foreign systems and people .
Challenged by an unexpected health issue just a couple years ago , Louise details her immediate and unabashedly Grenadian inclination , to fix her ailments the natural way , via nutmeg oils and golden apples . This time , the intervention required much more in the way of modern medicine . Never one to miss an opportunity to share a lesson , Louise turned her experience and her inclination to the natural and divine , into something that could benefit others . An offshoot of her company , EvenToBe , Louise has curated a line of all-natural , organic skin care and bath products with the naturally inclined in mind . Using naturally sourced products - including spearmint from her own garden - Louise continues to not only spread the message that self-care and health come above all else , but to provide others with a way to take steps to act on those priorities .
In addition to its great spices , Grenada continues to build on its foundational legacy of imparting life lessons , wisdom , and values , that serve to enrich the lives of those at home , in the diaspora and beyond - reaping the benefits of Grenadian blessings and favour .
As Louise would say : Hallelujah , hallelujah , hallelujah , thank God for Grenada .
