Message from the Spice Isle

Cultural Festival President Byron Cameron

After a year and a half of enduring this pandemic , it is time to celebrate life . With the loss of so many friends and family , we are thanking God for his mercies and recognizing those we have lost during the pandemic , thus our theme for our 2021 Spice Island Cultural Festival – “ A Celebration of Life – Food , Fashion , Music , and Culture ”.
As we tackle Covid-19 , we are encouraging everyone to get vaccinated . We want , of course , to take our festival outdoors in the near future to join together as one family enjoying the sights and sounds of Grenada , Carriacou and Petite Martinique . And we are beginning to see the end of the tunnel as more and more of us get the vaccine . As they say in Grenada , “ Get the jab if you want to play Jab ”. We are therefore encouraging one and all to work together to have all our friends and family vaccinated . We long to visit each other , hug and kiss the grandkids and connect with our community in person , once again .
Over the pandemic year and a half , our organization has reached out to the less fortunate in Grenada and St . Vincent and the Grenadines . Over the Christmas holidays with our Smile Project , four barrels containing toys , books and toiletries were shipped to three children ’ s homes in Grenada , simply to put a smile on the faces of the children . In addition , 10,000 PPE ’ s were sent to the Grenada Ministry of Health for frontline workers in the hospitals and the police department . A big thank you goes out to all who have donated to our GoFundMe page , which enabled us to raise $ 5,000Cdn . The recent volcano eruption in St . Vincent saw our organization again lend a helping hand to our neighbour by shipping non perishable food items to the people there . For our 2021 Festival we are once again opening our hearts to create a better life for Grenada ’ s most vulnerable children through our GoFundMe page . We extend an invitation for your kind and generous support with this initiative .
On behalf of the Spice Island Cultural Day Association of Quebec , I would like to offer my deepest appreciation to one of our major sponsors , Mélange Travel and Lifestyle Magazine , for their wonderful showcase of the Spice Island Cultural Festival , now in its fourth year of bringing the Spice Island to the world . Giving us this opportunity to showcase our organization ' s goals is more than words could express .
Special thanks to our wonderful sponsors who have stuck with us through the good times and the bad . Special thanks to the Government of Grenada , The Grenada Tourism Authority , The Grenada Ministry of Culture , CTV BellMedia , TNKR Media , City Councillors Marvin Rotrand ( Snowdon Borough ) and Craig Sauvé ( Ville Marie Borough ), the City of Montreal and many more . Thanks also to all the participants in the upcoming Festival and the wonderful people being featured in the Magazine . We appreciate your kind and continued support in our endeavours .
Last , but certainly not least , I would like to thank our hardworking committee members for their contribution in making the Spice Island Cultural Festival such an exciting and successful event each year .
