Message from the Prime Minister of Grenada , Carriacou and Petite Martinique

Honourable Dickon Mitchell
Dear Grenadians and friends of Grenada ,
On behalf of the Government and people of Grenada , it is my esteemed privilege to extend warm spice island greetings to all reading this message , the Government of Quebec , the Quebecois community and the people of Montreal .
I am delighted to join you this year as you bring together the rhythms , culinary delights and the artistic displays and cultural performances that bring together the heart and soul of our Grenadian culture into a mélange of greatness . This year , we raised our flags higher . Our mission was to ensure that every Grenadian at home and in the Diaspora got an opportunity to participate in national and community-based events in every parish across the tri-island state during our year-long independence celebrations .
As a nation , we continue to celebrate a journey that has shaped the course of our history and defined our identity — a journey filled with trials , triumphs , and an unyielding spirit of resilience — and a journey that our foreparents upheld with values of democracy , justice and self-determination to overcome challenges and inspire acts of compassion and solidarity .
As we recognize our 50 years of challenges and celebrated triumphs , I want to acknowledge the pivotal role that the diaspora plays in nation building . As we continue to build our nation for the next 50 years and beyond , we are immensely grateful for your commitment to serving Grenada and in the celebration of our diversity and the rich tapestry of Grenada ’ s heritage .
I would also like to acknowledge the work of the organizers and everyone who worked tirelessly to bring the Spice Island Festival to life . Festivals like this one highlight the beauty of our diversity and strength of our nations . This festival has become part of the soul of the community , it encompasses our traditions , shapes our identities , bring together expressions of both Canada and Grenada and aims to strengthen our relations .
As the Government of Grenada continue to explore avenues for collaboration in various areas of diplomacy , cultural exchanges and education , we acknowledge and highly commend the role the Spice Isle Cultural Day in Quebec association ( SICDAQ ) is playing , in not only showcasing , but in the preservation of our heritage and unique cultural offerings .
I would also like to recognize the work of other Grenadians in the Diaspora who work hard to sustain festivals of this nature , promoting Grenada and all that it has to offer .
As we enjoy the festival , let us remember the importance of preserving our cultural heritage because it is through such preservation that we keep our histories alive and ensure future generations understand and gain a greater appreciation for their Canadian and Grenadian roots .
I congratulate you on your 7th anniversary of the Spice Island Cultural Festival . This year you are celebrating in fine style by commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Grenada ' s Independence . It really is an honour to celebrate with you this year during Grenada ’ s Jubilee year of Independence under the theme One People , One Journey , One Future .
