HERMAN HALL , born in 1945 in St . John ’ s , Grenada , attended local schools before moving to New York for college . JEAN AUGUSTINE immigrated to Canada as a nanny and in 1993 became the first Black Woman elected to Parliament , championing the Black History Month and Famous Five motions . In her name are a young women ’ s centre , a university chair , two schools , two parks , three postsecondary scholarships and eight honorary doctorates .
