SIR ERIC MATTHEW GAIRY Sir Eric Matthew Gairy was the first Prime Minister of Grenada after the island gained its independence in 1974 . He was known for his charismatic leadership and advocacy for workers ’ rights . Gairy also founded the Grenada United Labour Party and played a significant role in the country ’ s early political development .

MAURICE BISHOP Maurice Bishop was a Grenadian revolutionary and politician who led the New Jewel Movement , which overthrew the government in 1979 . As Prime Minister , he implemented socialist policies and focused on education and healthcare . Bishop ’ s tenure ended tragically with a coup in 1983 , leading to his untimely death at 39 .
SIR NICHOLAS BRATHWAITE Sir Nicholas Brathwaite , a distinguished Grenadian statesman , served as Prime Minister from 1983 to 1984 and 1990 to 1995 . He led Grenada through post-revolutionary recovery , promoting stability and development . A respected educator and diplomat , Brathwaite ’ s legacy includes significant contributions to national unity and international relations . He passed away in 2016 .
HERBERT BLAIZE 1984-1989
HERBERT BLAIZE Herbert Blaize served as Prime Minister from 1984 until his death in 1989 . He founded the New National Party and played a key role in Grenada ’ s political stability post-1983 . Blaize focused on economic development and improved relations with the United States and Caribbean nations .
