The Right Honorable Keith Mitchell . “ We have not lost sight of the fact that we are in the middle of a global pandemic that has affected all economies , but when a crisis of this nature occurs and your brothers and sisters are in trouble , we simply have to extend a helping hand .”
Trinidad and Tobago dispatched 50 soldiers and a shipload of supplies . Barbados was also one of the first countries to respond to calls for assistance . So far the World Bank disbursed US $ 20 million to support the government while the United Nations has launched a $ 29.2 million global funding appeal to help .
Montrealers also showed their kind and generous support . The St . Vincent & The Grenadines Association of Montreal , with donations from generous Montrealers , were able to ship more than 150 barrels , boxes and packages to the people in St . Vincent . Also , to aid in the devastation , the members of The Spice Island Cultural Day Association of Quebec and the Spice Island Cultural Festival have reached out to their members and friends to support their initiative and were able to send a cash donation , packages and boxes with non-perishable food and personal items , including masks , gloves and sanitizers to the St . Joseph Convent shelter , friends and families who are displaced . The Cote des Neiges Black Community Association collected over $ 10,000 on behalf of the Red Cross .
